Music is one of my top 3 favorite albums.. very rich with melodies, synths and definitely a head of its time. What It Feels like for a Girl's spoken word comes from Charlotte Gainsbourg's character from the film The Cement Garden.

Maybe nostalgia but ‘Music’ was the first proper era for me where I was awaiting a new Madonna album and I absolutely loved it and still do to this day. Definitely less cohesive than some but such a ride!

TAXING! Yes, perfect word for this album, but not in a bad way. I remember an interview from her saying that the process was particularly painful. You can very clearly feel it, and it leaves you hollow.

She's saying she's been cloned. For real; it's science and technology. Thats why you say you get that "scifi" vibe. At the end she changes from "clone" to "home" where you see her in a higher dimensional forrest or "heaven." She's saying she's been cloned and these clones of her do the performing now but she's "dead" now and in heaven.

Yeah I’ll never understand why when lesbians sing about being lesbians people classify it as being “out there” or “bold”. I’m not sure if it’s the stupid ridiculous Christian mindset or just reactors like this one who are clearly uncomfortable with themselves that they have to judge but it’s actually kinda annoying and condescending. Not sure if Beth is aware but most of her audience are members of the LGBTQ+ community so keep that in mind when being so judgmental…. Maybe find a different hobby or say it with your chest that you are uncomfortable with gays. This reaction was such a letdown

I know this comment might go unnoticed, but I'd definitely recommend you "99.9F" by Suzanne Vega. It's a 1993 album that combines heavy poetic songwriting, acoustic-folky music and an industrial production going on the whole thing! I think you'd love it considering your love for American Life. :) Greetings!! The lyrics in that album are very heavy.

As a lifelong Madonna fan, I can’t overstate how satisfying it is when someone new to her work hears it with an open mind and GETS how incredibly innovative, expressive and meaningful her best work can be. For someone as prolific as she is as a songwriter and co-producer, along with her many other artistic endeavors, and for someone as much maligned, reduced and misunderstood as she is as an artist, it is so heartwarming when her brilliance reaches new ears. 👑.

Same girl, I am obsessed with Charli atm. I also LOVE Lorde, so this song made me go wild, haha. ❤I love Lorde's part, it broke my heart and felt very relatable. But it also makes me happy, it's such a banger and such a nice girlhood song, it gives powerful feelings. ❤

I think she didn’t get the Grammy due to the American Life video protesting the Iraq war. The uncensored directors cut version not that edited one she was forced to put out due to the backlash. Patriotism was at an all time high due to 9/11. She suffered a Dixie Chicks level blacklisting a bit.

Madonna is very inspired by poet Anne Sexton. She said so in 1990’s Truth or Dare. I think she really pulled a lot of inspired lyrics from reading her.
